Active Transformer Direct Interface

Compact design – giant tone.

The RNDI-M delivers the remarkable tone and clarity of its award-winning predecessors in a sleek, pedalboard-friendly format, featuring the same custom Rupert Neve Designs transformers and discrete FET input stage as the best-selling RNDI, RNDI-S, and RNDI-8.

With a streamlined feature set and a durable, space-efficient chassis, the RNDI-M seamlessly integrates into any setup, allowing even more musicians and engineers to experience the uncompromised sonic power and vibrant sound of a Rupert Neve Designs DI.

The RNDI-M offers instrument direct injection for a wide range of sources, including electric guitars and basses, synthesizers, keyboards, piezo pickups, and other instrument-level signals.

Built around Mr. Rupert Neve’s custom transformers, its discrete, Class-A circuit topology delivers exceptional sonic performance with a remarkably natural sound, spanning from below 5 Hz to well beyond 90 kHz. With the ability to handle input levels up to +20.5 dBu, its low-impedance, transformer-coupled output stage ensures long cable runs with minimal signal loss. Encased in a rugged steel chassis, the RNDI-M is built to withstand the demands of both stage and studio use, providing reliable, pristine sound for years to come.

The RNDI-M’s Origins

The RNDI circuitry was born from an ambitious experiment with new transformer designs and meticulously fine-tuned through extensive listening tests against the most popular high-end DIs on the market. Time and time again, the RNDI revealed its unique ability to add depth and dimension to sound, breathing life into instruments with a richness that set it apart. The lows were deeper, fuller, and more robust, while the highs delivered stunning clarity without introducing harshness.

Most importantly, the design team noted, “As musicians, the RNDI consistently stood out as the DI we wanted to play through.”

Since its debut in 2015, over 35,000 channels of RNDI have been sold, becoming a staple in studios and on stages worldwide. Its unmatched performance is trusted by top-tier artists such as Billie Eilish, The Rolling Stones, Olivia Rodrigo, Paul Simon, Billy Strings, AC/DC, Thundercat, Tycho, Halsey, Jack White, Stevie Wonder, and countless others.

Signature Sound

The RNDI-M’s signature sound results from the seamless integration of a custom Rupert Neve Designs transformer and a Class-A, discrete FET input stage. This carefully crafted synergy is at the heart of the RNDI-M’s renowned accuracy, tone, and responsiveness.

The Custom Transformer

At the core of the RNDI-M is a custom-wound output transformer that provides exceptional passive isolation while enhancing the sound with musical harmonics and added dimension. Its low-impedance, transformer-balanced output excels at driving long cable runs with consistent, high-quality performance, regardless of the connected equipment. This reliability is essential for both live and studio environments, where signals may travel nearly 100 feet before reaching an amplifier.

The Class-A, Discrete FET Amplifier

Powered by external +48V phantom power, the Class-A, discrete FET input stage features a high impedance input of 2.2 Megaohms, ensuring compatibility and consistent performance with a wide range of instruments and sources. The Class-A design eliminates crossover distortion, avoiding the unpleasant upper-order odd harmonics that can degrade the signal. Instead, the RNDI-M delivers a pleasing blend of 2nd order (octave) and 3rd order (fifth above octave) harmonics—enhancing the richness and musicality of the original signal.

Additionally, the discrete design means there are no ICs or digital components that could negatively impact the tone. Instead, the RNDI-M’s all-analog signal path ensures pure, natural sound reproduction, making it a trusted tool for musicians and engineers who demand the very best.

Wide Bandwidth, Giant Headroom

The RNDI-M boasts an impressively flat frequency response, staying within ±0.25 dB from 28 Hz to 60 kHz and ±1 dB up to 90 kHz, with low-frequency extension reaching well below 5 Hz. But measurements only tell part of the story.

When this extended bandwidth combines with the output transformer’s natural harmonic enhancement, the result is a thunderous low-end that feels nearly an octave deeper than anything else—without sacrificing midrange richness or top-end sparkle. The RNDI-M’s tonal balance remains pristine, delivering unmatched depth and clarity across the entire frequency spectrum.

For Guitar, Bass, Synth, Keys, and more

The RNDI-M offers an impressive high input headroom of +20.5 dBu, making it versatile enough to handle far more than just instruments. From synths, keyboards, and drum machines to pre-recorded material, the RNDI-M seamlessly imparts the coveted Rupert Neve Designs tone to an extensive range of sources with stunning clarity and richness.

Features

Groundbreaking Direct Tone
When class-A, discrete amplifiers meet Rupert’s custom transformers, amazing things happen. The RNDI-M contains the unique components and design knowledge that makes it worthy of the Rupert Neve name.

Huge Headroom
Maximum input level is a massive +20.5dBu, making the RNDI-M capable of handling not only instruments but also keyboards, drum machines and even pre-recorded material.

Rugged Solid Steel Frame
The rugged steel chassis is built to withstand the severe stresses of life on the road.

Use a Variety of Sources
The RNDI-M has immensely consistent performance across a wide variety of sources due to its 2.2M Ohm discrete FET input stage and high headroom. The RNDI-M can be used with confidence on guitars, synths, basses, acoustic instruments, keyboards & drum machines.

Drive Longer Lines
The low impedance transformer coupled output – below 40 ohms – is capable of driving long lines while maintaining exceptional high frequency performance.

1/4″ THRU Output
The THRU output can be used to maintain optimal input level to an amplifier with no signal degradation.

Ground Lift
A Ground Lift switch is provided on the rear panel to isolate Pin 1 on the XLR balanced output from the circuit ground to help fix any potential grounding issues.
