Within a sleek 1U enclosure, the 5024 stands out with its four channels of esteemed preamplification, individual Silk controls, dual DI inputs, and an integrated M-S Decoder. This versatile workhorse is designed to elevate the front-end performance of both digital and analog recording systems.

Beyond offering an impressive 72dB of gain, the 5024’s microphone preamps provide a suite of customizable features. Users can individually select phase, mute, and phantom power, as well as tailor the experience with a selectable frequency high-pass filter. With the inclusion of custom transformers and the distinctive Silk circuit, the 5024 captures the rich warmth and presence reminiscent of iconic classic designs.

What is Silk?

A standout feature of the 5024 is its Silk circuit, designed to infuse a defined amount of musical and pleasing harmonic saturation into the unit’s output stage. But how does it achieve this distinctive sound?

The Silk switch operates by diminishing negative feedback across the output transformer and fine-tuning the frequency response of this feedback. This process imparts the sweet, musical saturation characteristic of Rupert’s legendary vintage designs, enhancing the overall sonic character of the unit.

MIC GAIN
A 12-way precision rotary switch controls gain from 0 to 66 dB in 6 dB steps.

TRIM
Continuously variable +/-6 dB level control.

PHANTOM POWER
Provides 48V phantom power to microphones.

POLARITY
Reverses the polarity of the input signal.

MUTE
Mutes the output signal.

SILK / TEXTURE
Pushing the Silk button engages the Silk circuit, which reduces the negative feedback on the output transformer, adding harmonic content and accentuating the saturation in the mid and high frequencies – similar to the effect of Silk Red on the Shelford Channel and other RND units. With Silk engaged, the distortion characteristic and harmonic content of the unit are very reminiscent of many of Rupert’s vintage class-A designs.

HPF
Engages the high-pass filter circuitry.

30Hz / 90Hz
Selects between 30Hz and 90Hz for the high-pass filter frequency.

GROUND LIFT (Ch 1 & 2 only)
Lifts the ground connection on the DI input.

THRU (Ch 1 & 2 only)
Parallel THRU output for use with an external amplifier.

DI (Ch 1 & 2 only)
Transformer-isolated high-Z direct injection input.

M/S (Ch 3 & 4 only)
Changes channels 3 & 4 from independent to Mid (Ch3) and Side (Ch4)
